Strikethrough Text Generator
Cross out any text with a strikethrough line you can paste into chats, bios and posts. Works in most chat and social apps.
How it works
A combining long stroke overlay character (U+0336) is added after every character, which draws a line through it. It is ordinary text, so it survives copy and paste. Line breaks are kept without a mark.
Example: “Hello 123” becomes H̶e̶l̶l̶o̶ ̶1̶2̶3̶.
Frequently asked questions
How does strikethrough text work?
The tool adds an invisible combining character after each letter. Apps draw it as a line through the letter before it.
Why does it look different in some apps?
Apps draw combining characters in their own way, so the line can look thinner, thicker or slightly broken. Check the result in the app where you will use it.
Is there a simpler way in chat apps?
Some apps have their own markup: Discord strikes out text between two tildes (~~like this~~), and WhatsApp and Slack use one tilde on each side (~like this~).
Does it work for any language?
It works on any character, including accented letters and Cyrillic, because the line is added after the character instead of replacing it.
